Join the GTK team for this full day session which will introduce a few of the key considerations when it comes to manual wheelchair prescription: the wheelchair, the seating and power assist options.
We will begin our discussion with an introduction to manual wheelchair prescription looking into what questions we should be asking in the assessment to guide our decision. We will discuss how the wheelchair set-up and components can impact the client’s function, independence and well-being. We will then take a look into how a user’s postural position is directly impacted by the manual base prescription, size and the provision of seating. Finally, we will conclude the day with a deep dive into the impacts of manual wheelchair prescription on shoulder function and health, and when we should consider power assist.
On completion of this workshop you will:
- Be able to identify the information needed during the manual wheelchair assessment process
- Understand how wheelchair set up and component choice impact on function
- Identify how postural position is impacted by wheelchair prescription
- Discuss how wheelchair set up and seating impact on function
- Understand when a power assist device may benefit a wheelchair user
