In the morning, we’ll learn how to prescribe and configure manual wheelchairs to maximise independence, function and long term health with avoidance of overuse injuries. Topics will include frame selection and how to configure an active manual wheelchair to promote safe, functional independence. Through trial and interaction, we’ll experience how different frame styles and set-ups effect propulsion, comfort and ultimately user function.
In the afternoon, we’ll use properly configured wheelchairs to put your wheelchair skills to the test in a practical session. In small groups, we’ll practice instruction and completion of a variety of wheelchair skills from propulsion to wheelies to transfers and more. We’ll discuss the importance of these skills in everyday life and present strategies for teaching your clients these instructions.
Come ready for action – this workshop is jam-packed with hands-on learning experience.
