Choosing the right wheelchair is an important step in regaining your freedom and mobility. GTK offers a wide range of manual wheelchairs designed to suit all lifestyles and ages.
A manual wheelchair is a wheelchair that is either self-propelled by the individual in the wheelchair or attendant assisted by pushing from the rear. Manual wheelchairs generally have two sets of wheels; a large rear set serving as the primary driving force, and a smaller front set (known as castors) to provide fine steering control. Alternative configurations may also be available on request.
Manual wheelchairs are a great option for individuals who have the upper body strength and balance to propel themselves. They are easily portable, lightweight and cost effective compared to a powered chair.

Rigid Frame28 Products
Rigid-frame manual wheelchairs are perfect for everyday use. Inspired by sports and athletic wheelchairs, the rigid-frame design provides strength and stability, while also helping to direct the maximum amount of effort through the wheels. They are available in a variety of materials from lightweight aluminium and carbon-fibre to vibration absorbing titanium. Rigid-frame wheelchairs will usually provide a more stable and comfortable ride than an equivalent folding-frame chair as less energy is released away from the frame. -
Folding frame21 Products
Folding frame wheelchairs are a versatile option for many individuals. Their primary benefit is to collapse them down for ease of transport without requiring vehicle modifications. They can also be a practical option when completing standing transfers as the swing away legrest option created space at the front of the frame. Similar to fixed-frame models they are available in a variety of materials tailored to the user’s requirements for strength, rigidity, and weight. The moving parts enable the chair to be folded for transportation, the latest designs and technologies do an excellent job at minimising any problems of stability and ride comfort. -
Tilt in space8 Products
Tilt-in-space wheelchairs are a special category of chairs designed for people who cannot sit upright for prolonged periods. These chairs have the ability to tilt backwards (usually 5 – 60º) while maintaining a 90º angle between the user’s legs and torso. Due to the mechanisms to allow the tilt, tilt-in-space wheelchairs require a carer to push from the rear. -
Power Assist Devices17 Products
A power assist device is a motorised device that can be attached to your manual wheelchair. The primary purpose of a power assist device is to allow the wheelchair user to propel with less energy expenditure. If you've ever struggled to push up a steep slope, had trouble getting across grass or have wrist and shoulder pain, a power assist device might be just what you need. Power assist devices can be in the form of an aftermarket attachment that fits onto the rear or front of your wheelchair, or a pushrim activated wheel assembly. GTK can help you determine which type of power assist would best suit your needs. -

Off the Shelf manual wheelchairs
'Off-the shelf' folding frame wheelchairs are a cost effective option for many people that do not require customisation or individual configuration of their wheelchair. Off-the-shelf wheelchairs are available in set sizes and configurations, and suit people who need the use of a wheelchair on occasion, for example to access medical appointments, but do not use a wheelchair for the majority of the time. Because these types of wheelchairs have limited configuration options, they are much more cost effective than customised wheelchairs. -
