Postural Management and Product Selection Concepts (Ballina)

Postural Management and Product Selection Concepts

In wheelchair seating, the transition from clinical assessment to a finished build requires a clear understanding of biomechanical drivers and proper matching of presentation to product and prescription.

Join us for a practical clinical session focused on identified drivers of postural asymmetry at the Pelvis. We will review the concepts required to translate assessment findings into stable, supportive seating systems for both reducible and fixed postures.

Clinical Focus Areas:

  • The Foundation: Selection concepts focused on achieving and supporting an upright pelvis to provide a stable base for the trunk and head. What support do I need, and where do I put it?
  • The Obliquity Puzzle: Identifying the drivers of pelvic obliquity. We will discuss when to match the product to the cause to provide corrective support and when to build shapes to accommodate a non-reducible presentation.
  • Lateral Support Logic: Consider when is a lateral support needed, its shape and size, where it could be placed and should it be part of or separate to the back support itself?
  • The Non-Reducible Spine: Practical strategies for building support for Kyphosis/Scoliosis in the presence of a fixed pelvic position.

This session is designed as a technical review of these concepts, walking through the logic of specific builds and how to utilise adjustable components to solve complex clinical puzzles.
