Pressure + Standing (Sydney)

Pressure + Standing Sydney Event by GTK

Join the Permobil and GTK Teams for either a half day or a full day workshop.

The human body is an amazing collection of integrated body structures and systems designed to enable function and sustain life. Anatomical neutral position is based on a standing position, but for many users who experience mobility impairments life is experienced from a seated position. This can lead to both health and functional challenges. This full day workshop deep dives into some of the implications of sitting and the benefits of standing.

You can choose to attend the morning session, afternoon session or both depending on your learning goals.

9am – 12.30pm – Under Pressure
It is common knowledge that most pressure injuries are preventable. By understanding what pressure is and how it impacts the body, we can apply this knowledge to guide the clinical reasoning processes to select appropriate individualised seating solutions. Following this session, attendees will be able to:
1. List 4 common areas for pressure injuries
2. Name the 6 classifications of pressure injuries
3. Describe 3 current practices to assist with the prevention or treatment of pressure injuries

1pm – 3pm – Standing Power Wheelchairs: From Evidence to Trial
Identifying and clinically justifying when standing should be integrated into a mobility base can be overwhelming. Understanding standing readiness and how to appropriately measure outcomes at a trial are essential parts of the process. By the end of this session you will have the information to:
1. Describe 3 evidence supported ways that standing can benefit an end-user
2. List 4 considerations to determine readiness for standing
3. Explain the importance of the trial process for a standing power wheelchair
