We’re sure that most clinicians have been asked to review a user’s existing seating system and make some ‘tweaks’. Sometimes the user’s needs have changed over time, and we need to have systems that adapt with their needs. Having to review an existing seating system can be overwhelming and it can be difficult to know where to start.
In this half-day workshop, we’re going to learn how to assess the effectiveness of a seating system to determine whether it is meeting the user’s goals. We’ll have the opportunity to get hands-on with seating products and learn how to adjust the seating angles and postural supports (pelvic belts, harnesses, head supports, trunk supports and thigh supports) to meet seating goals. You’ll finish the workshop feeling confident and looking forward to the next time you’re asked to review a seating system.
Morning tea will be provided.

Meet the Presenter:
Kate Pain (GTK)
Kate comes from an occupational therapy background, with two decades of experience in varied settings, specialising in wheelchair seating and positioning. She finds the evolution of power wheelchair alternate drive technology fascinating, and looks forward to exciting innovations becoming more readily available in power wheelchairs.
Kate really enjoys appointments with children who are trying out a wheelchair for the first time. She loves seeing the excitement in their eyes as they move independently for the first time – it’s contagious!
Kate also enjoys working with adults trialling a wheelchair for the first time, who have a lifetime of limiting perceptions about using a wheelchair, who then realise that the right equipment can amplify their abilities and enjoyment of life.
