Foundations of Seating Assessment
Join us for a comprehensive wheelchair seating assessment education event, designed for allied health professionals new to seating and assistive technology prescription.
This hands-on workshop will cover up-to-date best practice in assessing and recommending wheelchair seating options. Learn how to properly evaluate postural needs, functional abilities, and lifestyle factors to confidently prescribe seating and positioning products.
Through practical MAT Eval exercises, interactive case studies and group discussions you will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to enhance the quality of life for your clients and improve their independence and comfort. Don’t miss this opportunity to build your skills in wheelchair seating assessment!
Advanced Seating Assessment and Prescription
Our ‘Advanced Seating Assessment and Prescription’ workshop has been designed to enhance your clinical practice so you can confidently navigate the complexities of seating assessment and prescription.
Led by industry-respected clinicians, join Kate Pain (GTK) and the GTK team as they share invaluable insights into the assessment and prescription of seating, drawing from their extensive clinical backgrounds.
We’ll also have numerous opportunities for practical, hands-on exploration of seating and positioning equipment.
Unpacking the Invisible Variables of Power Wheelchair Prescription
As power wheelchairs continue to advance, clinicians face an increasing challenge: understanding not only what a chair can do, but how effectively it performs in real-world environments. While two power wheelchairs may offer the same features—such as tilt, elevating leg rests, or anterior reach—the underlying specifications can vary significantly and may have a profound impact on function, access, and participation.
This session explores the often-overlooked variables that influence clinical outcomes and highlights the important relationship between design, engineering, and functional performance. Through case studies, product comparisons featuring the Permobil 3 Series and 5 Series power wheelchairs, and live programming demonstrations, participants will learn how to identify and interpret the specifications that matter most and incorporate them into their clinical reasoning.
We will also examine common—and less commonly discussed—challenges reported by power wheelchair users and demonstrate how targeted programming adjustments can improve function, independence, and participation.
Manual Wheelchairs and Seating Prescription: The Balance between Function, Mobility and Pressure Care
Join us for an interactive, hands-on session led by both clinical and product experts as we explore the complex balance between mobility, function, postural support, and pressure management in manual wheelchair prescription.
Through practical clinical discussion and product demonstration, we will examine when hybrid wheelchair cushions may be appropriate to address both postural and pressure care requirements, and when alternative strategies—such as ergonomic wheelchair frames, advanced materials, and specialised cushion designs—may provide improved functional outcomes for manual wheelchair users.
The session will also explore the opportunities, challenges, and clinical considerations involved in prescribing custom-built wheelchairs. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of frame materials, configuration options, and the clinical reasoning required to justify custom solutions for individual users. In addition to the clinical content, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the features, performance characteristics, and specifications of the Permobil TiLite range of manual wheelchairs.
Complex Wheelchair Seating with Joana Santiago (The OT Lab)
Joana will explore complex seating and share practical considerations for assessing young and older clients with complex postural needs. The session will focus on wheelchair seating intervention strategies that support both current needs and future changes, helping clinicians make informed and adaptable clinical decisions.
You’ll also get hands-on with a NEW innovative wheelchair seating system now available in Australia, that everyone is talking about.
Complex Commode Selection with Rob Norman (Paragon Mobility)
Rob will take a practical look at commode selection for clients with specific and complex needs. Explore the options available, key considerations in the selection process, and how to match equipment to the client’s individual needs and goals. Learn how different features and adjustments can be used to optimise positioning, pressure management and functional outcomes, with customisation strategies to get the most out of the equipment.
Expect a day of practical learning, clinical reasoning, hands-on exploration and real-world solutions you can take back into your practice.
