SENcastle, developed in collaboration with special education teachers and sensory integration therapists, is a unique multimodal sensory device that connects a child’s sensory needs with assistive technology. It is a dedicated space for relaxation and stimulating children’s senses across various environments. By providing controlled input for five sensory systems – auditory, visual, tactile, proprioceptive, and vestibular, SENcastle ensures comprehensive sensory engagement.

The design of SENcastle is universal; it can adapt to any space and function as a standalone unit. The device employs carefully selected elements with specific sensory functions to deliver the necessary sensory input in everyday activities.

The SENCASTLE Interior

SENcastle features a range of elements designed to enhance sensory experiences. Its spacious interior includes adjustable light control for a comfortable atmosphere, while a central base with buttons allows for sound playback. The central column, with its colour-changing capabilities and visual effects, creates a dynamic and immersive environment.

To further enrich the experience, SENcastle comes with 42 sensory cards offering 210 unique sensory scenes. It also includes six sensory cushions, each providing different types of sensory input.

Who is SENcastle for?

SENcastle is primarily intended for children aged 3 to 18 years, but it can also be used by adults. Given its characteristics, it is intended for the following groups:

Children with sensory integration difficulties
Children with ADD and ADHD
Children with intellectual disabilities
Children with various motor difficulties

Sensory cards

One of the key features of SENcastle is the sensory cards, each of which includes sensory scenes that cover a range of themes, such as relaxation, stimulation, educational content, time orientation, emotions, sensory-challenging social situations, and interactive activities. To activate the corresponding scenes, simply select a sensory card and place it against the SENcastle logo on the controller base.

Interactive Cards

This set includes 7 interactive SENcastle cards that allow recording sets of messages and active user participation, promoting better concentration and understanding of cause and effect relationships.

Relaxation and Stimulation

Children often require sensory input that will stimulate or calm their sensory systems. This customised type of sensory input is facilitated through the use of sensory scenes in these six cards.

Emotions

SENcastle designed these cards to help children recognise and name their own and others’ emotions.

Educational content

A set of 12 cards that cover areas such as animals, modes of transportation and musical instruments, facilitating learning in a fun way.

Time Orientation

This group consists of 3 cards that facilitate an easier understanding of concepts related to time orientation.

Sensory cushions

Sensory pillows are a core feature of SENcastle, offering a range of sensory experiences through six unique cushions. These include a vibrating cushion, a weighted cushion, two tactile cushions (one with an abstract design and another with a house motif), an auditory cushion, and a multi-sensory cushion, providing four distinct types of sensory input.
