Spex lateral trunk support brackets are adjustable in all planes: height, width, depth and lateral angle for ultimate trunk orientation. Different pad choices can be combined and you can even use two laterals per side for different points of control… Spex brings you modular creativity!

Types of Spex Lateral Trunk Support Pads

Broad pad
The Broad pad offers long trunk support for effective pressure reduction.
Narrow Straight Pad
The Narrow Straight Pad can be positioned forwards or backwards for functional activities and transfers.
Narrow curved pad
The narrow curved pad allows for increased comfort and spinal extension.Choose from a range of mounting hardware options:

Axial Swing-Away Hardware
The Spex Axial Swing-Away Lateral Hardware features a patented mechanically rotational system, which ensures that the user’s trunk is always kept well supported even in the most challenging positions. Allowing movement in all support surface planes enables the lateral pad to rotate to correctly align to the user’s trunk, regardless of complexity of posture.
As well as offering width and depth adjustment that all Spex Lateral Supports provide, the innovative mechanism of the Axial Swing-Away enables multi-angular adjustability of the support pad. Axial lateral mechanisms are provided with a comfy protective sleeve that ensures the user’s arms are protected from any hard surfaces.

Swing-Away Hardware
The Swing-Away Lateral Trunk Support Hardware is width and depth adjustable, with additional vertical pivot adjustment. Spex laterals offer optimum trunk support whilst improving balance, posture and comfort.
Fixed Hardware
The Fixed Lateral Hardware are width and depth adjustable. Sturdy yet lightweight fixed brackets are reversible to provide two length options for the support pad. The bracket design includes slots for adjustability and ease of installation. Made from robust aluminium, Spex fixed lateral support hardware has no moving parts for strength and durability.
Cane Mount Hardware
The Cane Mount Lateral Bracket attaches directly to the wheelchair canes. As it doesn’t mount to the wheelchair back support which means that the lateral is completely independent of the back support.Available with Comfy Covers:

Comfy Covers are an innovative option for all laterals
The Comfy Cover ensures that the user’s elbow and arm are protected from the lateral metal hardware due to the extended padding over the mechanism. The clever release strap allows for the swing away movement to be easily operated, allowing for users with limited hand function independent use to open the laterals for transfers.
The Comfy Covers are easily removable for washing.

All Spex Accessories are guaranteed to be free from defects for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase, provided normal use. Should a defect in materials or workmanship occur within 12 months of the original date of purchase, Medifab Limited will, at its option, repair or replace it without charge. This warranty does not apply to punctures, tears or burns to the material or outer cover where applicable.

Spex Lateral Trunk Supports have been tested to and comply with the following standards:
- AS/NZS 3695 and AS/NZS 3696 (Wheelchair Requirements and Test Methods)
- AS/NZS ISO 16840.4 (Seating Systems for use in Motor Vehicles)
Spex also maintains a quality management system that is certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 13485:2016.
