The Spex Quick Release Lateral Trunk Support is an easily removable lateral support for transfers and other temporary removal situations such as sport.

This lateral trunk support is ideal for users who wish to easily remove their lateral support for transfers and other situations where laterals temporarily require removal from the wheelchair. The simple lever mechanism can be released by either the user or their carer. Available in a range of depth sizes to fit varying back support upholstery thicknesses, the Quick-Release hardware can be fitted to any of the Spex lateral trunk support pads. A locking pin provided for use in transport and to prevent unintentional release of the support.

Lateral support when you need it
Easily removed for transfers and other situations where laterals require temporary removal from the wheelchair, such as sports involving arm movement. The Quick release lateral can also be used when easy installation is needed, such as for extra support when driving or other transport, when a lateral support is not normally used on the wheelchair.

The simple lever mechanism can be released by either the user or their carer. The Quick Release Lateral Support is available in left-handed and right-handed configurations, so the lever can be positioned in the best spot for releasing.

Mounts to back support or cane
The Quick Release Lateral Support can be mounted directly onto Spex back supports or on the wheelchair back canes. Cane mounting the lateral may provide greater flexibility with installation and allows a greater variety of mounting position. Although the cane mount can be angled slightly, it is dependent on the back support and wheelchair size.

The Axial fixed angle mounting hardware is suitable for all back support models and includes extended bars to fit ti a variety of back support foam thicknesses. The Axial swing-away hardware also includes angle adjustment as well as the swing-away function, and is suitable for fitting to the Spex Classic, Comfi and SuperShape back supports.

Quick Release Lateral Trunk Supports are provided with a detent pin so that the mechanism can be locked in a fixed position. This is suitable for using in transport and to prevent the unintentional release of the support.

This allows you to achieve the correct support structure through a unique mechanically rotational system where the lateral pad can be placed in the optimum position for correct alignment of the user’s trunk. 
Warranty Information
All Spex Accessories are guaranteed to be free from defects for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase, provided normal use. Should a defect in materials or workmanship occur within 12 months of the original date of purchase, Medifab Limited will, at its option, repair or replace it without charge. This warranty does not apply to punctures, tears or burns to the material or outer cover where applicable.

Spex Lateral Trunk Supports have been tested to and comply with the following standards:

  • AS/NZS 3695 and AS/NZS 3696 (Wheelchair Requirements and Test Methods)
  • AS/NZS ISO 16840.4 (Seating Systems for use in Motor Vehicles)
